Objective

To evaluate the lubrication capabilities of XcelPlus* dry film lubricant. This evaluation to be completed by driving three vehicles from Kutztown, PA. to Reading, PA. a distance of 14.4 miles at legal highway speeds.

All vehicles had been treated with XcelPlus* engine treatment during the last six months.

The engine oil was drained from the vehicles for a period of 1/2 hour. The drain plugs were in my possession during the entire test.

Test

Following are statistics on each of the vehicles:

Vehicle #1 - 1972 Cadillac Sedan, 472 V-8, automatic transmission with 75,910 miles. No unusual engine noises were reported during the test.

Vehicle #2 - 1964 Chevrolet Impala Sedan, 283 V-8, automatic transmission with 100,753 miles. No unusual noise.

Vehicle #3 - 1965 Plymouth Barracuda, 273 V-8, automatic transmission with 128,796 miles. No unusual noise.

The test took 22 minutes to designated point after which all engines were left to idle for an additional 8 minutes for a total time of 30 minutes. All water temperature gauges remained normal during at at the end of the test.

Results

Vehicle #1 had loud lifter rattle from hydraulic lifters.
Vehicle #2 had slight lifter noise.
Vehicle #3 with solid lifters had no noise.

Drain plugs were reinstalled while engines were running and oil returned to engines which quieted the hydraulic lifters to normal on vehicles #1 & #2. At conclusion of test, all three vehicles sounded and performed as they did prior to the test.
